A great read ! The book was also adapted for film with Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington.

A suburban, Caucasian real estate woman married to a successful lawyer lives in an exclusive suburb of a large City. They have two sons and  two daughters that have some usual growing pains and some extraordinary growing pains that are ignored and oversimplified by them as parents. Mainly because our title character is living in a "delusion" of perfection in her home, children, marriage and girl friends, as well as the "society of wealth success and power" that she has strived to be a part of. She meets Kerry Washington, an artist who is African American and is living out of her car with her teen daughter. Her issues are rebellion and rejection of her parents and home and a fantasy life of calling herself an artist and living like a bohemian without regard to any stability for her daughter. She has a multiplicity of issues around truth, integrity, talent and love but does have unrequited talent as an artist. Art school is another saga. She was persuaded and pleaded to by her daughter to please let her have some semblance of a high school

experience by getting a house instead of constant road living, stay in a community for a year. Thus, we meet our title character who is the Realtor and owner of the house for rent they are hoping for.

Both women play strong character roles (as well as the children) and wage a  battle for their souls as well as their families. The book chronicles both of these women's lives which are extreme in every way, unique, different, pathological, sad and unfortunate, dramatic and provocative and ultimately tragic and the experience of electrifying loss. The title is a classic image portrayal of these lives of  very flawed human beings. You don't know anyone quite like either of them I am pretty sure.
